SHARING LESSONS THROUGH

VIDEOCONFERENCING

Katherine Murphy and Andrew D. Moores discuss what they have learned through videoconferencing, with their fellow classmates at Ascension Collegiate in Newfoundland

"Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts have had many presentations about Asian cultures, religions and their ways of living. Jennifer Clarke, with a Korean background, Brad Clarke and a professor from Memorial University are only three of those who have spoken about Asian countries. Ascension has also had an Asian night in which they cooked and ate Asian food.

From the activities that Ascension has had they have learned a lot about Asian cultures such as; chewing gum in certain countries is impolite, how to receive a gift and how to give a gift.

The twenty-nine delegates who are participating think that they have a better understanding about how they should react if they should ever visit or be involved with an Asian country. They feel that the Canadian government should be more aware of the other countries.

Ascension students would like to see more student exchanges, cultural days and more programs in school. After this conference they are planning to talk to the student council, teachers and administration to get more programs and activities on Asian countries."
