YOUTH SPEAK!!!!!!!!!

The National Youth Council is the brainchild of the Boys & Girls
Clubs of Canada. The Council is dedicated to giving youth across Canada a voice in political and social issues. "The NYC was started in the fall of 1994 and was established to provide youth with a better opportunity to have direct input into the direction of the Boys & Girls Clubs movement at the National level," says Eric Burton, national Coordinator of Regional Development.

ROLES OF THE N.YC.:
1. To provide a positive role models for youth throughout the movement.
2. To provide a positive influence to decision-making at the National level.
3. To provide youth with a learning experience about national affairs and develop new skills.
4. To actively participate with the National Board and Committees.
5. To represent the interests of youth throughout the Boys & Girls movement.

VALUE STATEMENTS:
1. Youth will speak for themselves and make their own decisions within the NYC.
2. The NYC is committed to act upon issues identified by the Council or the youth they represent.
3. All NYC members' ideas and views will be listened to and considered.
4. The NYC will respect the views and feelings of others.
5. NYC members will be democratically elected by youth in their respective Region.

"All the NYC members are incredibly energetic and bring with them superb insight into the the issues youth encounter in communities across Canada," says Eric. "They are a very important resource to Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada and represent an excellent example of how youth can contribute immeasurably to our organization and society as a whole."
