- to be treated as a co-worker
- to be given a suitable assignment
- to know as much about the organisation as possible
- to receive continuing education for the job; to have regular evaluation of one's volunteer performance
- to be given sound guidance and direction
- to be given promotion and a variety of experience
- to be heard
- to be recognized
- to receive enabling funds when needed
- to be sincere in the offer of service and believe in the value of the task to be done
- to be loyal to the community organisation with which one works
- to maintain the dignity and integrity of the community organisation with the public
- to carry out duties promptly and reliably
- to accept the guidance and decisions of the co-ordinator of volunteers
- to be willing to learn and participate in orientation, training programs and meetings and to continue to learn on the job
- to understand the function of the paid staff, maintain a smooth working relationship with them and stay within the bounds of the volunteer placement description
