If you've been having specific problems setting up the CU-SeeMe videoconferencing try finding some of your answers in some of the nuggets of techie information below.

A FEW TIPS

*If you are using an all-in-one Mac, such as a Performa, you might have to turn off the sound capabilities of your internal modem in order to access the sound control panel options. For example, if you are using a Performa 5260 with an internal Global Village modem I found you have to turn off the "Global Village Toolbox" extension in the extensions manager control panel. You will not hear your modem dial with this extension disabled, but the screen display should let you know if you are having problems connecting

*If you are using a Mac with a built-in video digitizer, you might have to turn off virtual memory (you will have to turn it off using a 7500 or 8500) or CU-SeeMe will not work

*If you are using a 14.4 modem try limiting the transmission rates to about 5-12 Kbps, and your receiving rates to minimum 5 Kbps and maximum 15 Kbps. Maximum viewable video windows: 1-2. It's hard to get more out the program at this connection speed.

*If you are using a 28.8 modem try limiting the transmission rates to about 12-16 Kbps, and your receiving rates to minimum 10 Kbps and maximum 30 Kbps. Maximum viewable video windows: 1-4. This might help stop your audio from being so choppy.

*Setting for White Pine Color Video: Min/Max Trans/Recv rates should be the same. Quality set to 70-75%. Smeared I Frame Rate: 25 to 30. Gamma Correction leave as is.

*If you are using a Mac, try closing and re-opening the chat window (which has a memory limit of 32k) periodically, or the machine might crash.
