APEC Leaders' Meeting Youth Communication Centre
The Leaders of the 18 APEC economies will be gathering in Vancouver to discuss the achievements of the past year and to look forward into APEC's future.
At this important meeting, there will be a Youth Communication Centre that will highlight youth involvement in Canada's Year of Asia Pacific, from ministerial meetings to working group meetings to special consultations to the Asia Connects conference and many other youth events.
The Youth Communication Centre will be staffed by 7 members of the TG Magazine / Students Commission youth team for Canada's Year of Asia Pacific. These are the same young people who brought you all the wonderful stuff on this website.
What is a Youth Communications Centre?
The Youth Communications Centre will feature on-line reports from all youth events, a CD-ROM and video on the year's youth events and newsletters. Scheduled web chats and desktop videoconferences with youth from Canada and other member economies who participated in the Ministerial and Working Group meetings will be showcased.
The Youth Communication Centre will offer an online resource and program to teachers, schools and youth who are following the mainstream media coverage of the Leaders Meeting in their class discussions and studies.
Why a Youth Communications Centre?
This initiative is the culmination of the year's activities. Over a thousand youth from all eighteen APEC member economies participated directly. The Youth Communication Centre will not only highlight their achievements, it will also be a direct link to their participation in the Leaders meeting.
Program Objectives for the Youth Communication Centre:
- to demonstrate the achievements of Canadian and International Youth participating in Canda's Year of Asia Pacific and the Candian program of youth involvement during Canada's Chair of APEC
- to illustrate Canada's leadership in long distance technology and show how these methods of communication are being applied by youth in ways that could benefit the APEC community and its objectives
- to provide a tangible example to both Canadians and other member economies of the benefits of the Youth International Internship Program
