The
Allied Youth and Students' Council Conference.
- - panel discussion addressing issues of Asia Pacific
cultural relations with North America, hosted by the Race
Relations Consultant of the Department of Education.
- - a student of UPEI has been invited to introduce the
conference delegates to the region on a geographical level
(What countries make up Asia Pacific region and where on the
globe are they?) The panelists have been given prepared
questions that deal with issues from their perspective.
Ruiko Shinoda is a Japanese exchange student who is going to
school in Charlottetown. She can provide us with the
perspective of someone who has grown up in the Asian culture
and is now adapting to the Canadian lifestyle. Darren
MacAleer is a university student who spent time going to
school in Japan. Jeannette Arsenault is a business person
who deals extensively in our Asian immersed tourism market
(Anne of Green Gables); she has also extended this market to
the realm of export. Pawpaw Mawley is new resident of PEI
who grew up in a dictatorship in Thailand. She brings the
distinct perspective of one of the world's most
controversial human rights policies. She also worked in a
refugee camp.
