Trudy SÈri Samuel

Email: Trudy_Seri_Samuel@scilink.org

Her name is Trudy Seri Samuel, born in the grand town of Ottawa, Ontario during the howling year of the Dog-- but this woman is nothing to bark at.

Her interests revolve around issues pertaining to community development within the international arena having a direct focus on women and youth. One of her priorities as a youth coordinator is to ensure that youth have their voices heard and have an influence on the decision making process at an international level.

Trudy's background is in grassroots organization and facilitation in varying aspects of social development, of which includes conferences planning, fundraising, media relations and special event management.

Trudy, who is a constant inspiration to the lethargic at heart, is located in the Toronto office at TG, The Students Commission.

Roy De Lima

Update:
Sadly, Roy had to return to school and is in his last year of study at
Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.
Roy is another one of our interns here at TG/ Students Commission. Right now Roy is attending Trent University in Peteborough trying to get is Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Studies and Canadian Studies.

He's the software King! This guy knows his computers. He has held quite a few positions working with computers and the Internet. At the present time Roy is working as a Workshop Instructor in the Computer Studies department of Trent University. His duties in this job are to teach people the different programs (ranging from Word processing to Spreadsheets) and grading the students' assignments. Not only is he keeping himself busy with working towards his degree but he is also involved in researching for the Peterborough, Haliburton, and Victoria County Y.W.C.A. Through this research he will be uncovering the effects poverty has on computer literacy skills in children. The information he gets from this research will be the basis of a proposal to fund a computer lab for disadvantaged children in Peterborough.

Though you might think so by everything I've written so far, Roy is not all computers. He also enjoys recreational activities such as tennis and cycling. Collecting sports cards is another one of his passions. Straying away from sports and computers I hear Roy plays a mean guitar.

Ramona Parkash-Puni

Update:
Ramona is back at school (but is still actively involved in organizing the Toronto site for Asia Connects. She is studying Education at McGill University in MontrÈal, pursuing an additional degree in fitness. She also coaching soccer right now and is the risk-management chairman of Kappa Kappa Gamma Society.

From the little ol' town of Lindsay, to the big ol' town of Markham, I am a first generation East Indian-Canadian and Ontario native. However, two years ago I followed my love for rich European culture, shopping, music and theatre and ended up in Montreal, Quebec. Studying under McGill University's Faculty of Education, I am currently studying Biology and Moral/ Family Studies Secondary Education. My love for soccer, aerobics, and other sports also has me working on a second degree in Fitness.

Born in the year of the dragon, I fall under the Pisces zodiac sign. If you know anything about astrology, Pisceans are known to be 'fun loving' with a weird sense of humour, 'devoted to duty', 'idealistic', and 'enthusiastic'. They are also known to 'never be confined long in one place'. I suppose this especially explains the travel bug in me that's taken me through parts of Europe, Asia, North America, and the Caribbean.

My most exciting travel experience began when I joined Generation 2000's Cross Canada Tour in '95. During my five month adventure I explored every corner of Canada (from NWT to Nfld.), and spoke with thousands of youth about their hopes and concerns for the future. Through drama and workshops, I gained much insight on Canadian youth. After being actively involved in the "youth and anti-racism scene" since 1989, I'm applying this information and insight as a youth intern at TG Magazine!

It may not exactly be the ideal reason for motivation, but to me one of "...the greatest pleasures in life is doing what people say you cannot do." I've had a blast watching the world respond to the numerous accomplishments of today's youth, and I can't wait to see what they say about Asia Connects!

A winner of the Lincoln Alexander anti-racism award, Bindu has been making presentations on behalf of her peers to the Governor General, provincial royal commissions and school boards. She has also spoken on youth and equity issues in appearances on Canada A.M. , Newsworld and CBC's "The National ".

Currently a student at the University of Toronto, Bindu also continues her work with TG, creating and co-ordinating special youth projects such as the Young Women's Guide, from her experiences at the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing.

Bindu is a woman with a difference - the only commerce student with a Macintosh...

Sarah Denham

EMail: Sarah_Denham@scilink.org

Describe yourself in five sentences or less:

1) I am in my twenties, barely, an aquarius and vegetarian, of average height, and have brown eyes and blond hair (naturally).

2) I am a full-time student in Ryerson's Journalism program, and I work full-time at TG--you figure it out because I sure can't.

3) I started at TG just over a year ago as a co-op student and in a weird twist of fate, I now supervise the co-op students, web site stuff, graphic design and writing; you can call me the webmaster.

4) The strangest things about me are that I'm a shopaholic (no joke), very organized (can you say obsessive-compulsive), and minus a kidney, another long story.

5) I'm back home living with my Mum, 16-year-old brother, and 6-year-old sister in North York right now, but between you and me, I love living on my own.

Oh yeah, and I hate writing bios trying to describe myself!

Krista McAllister

I'm Krista. I am new to TG. I graduated from McKenzie College with a diploma in 3D Computer Animation and Visualization. I'm both new and old to TG magazine. I worked with them back in 1995 at the G-7 Summit in Halifax along with Auburn Air. I am now working with them in there Toronto office to help produce multimedia packages.

I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I spent most of my life moving back and forth from Nova Scotia to Ontario. I'm a big Mickey fan, but have never hasd a chance to met the Mouse in person. But I will meet him soon enough!

When I'm not at the office I can either be found, lost in this big new city, playing Rugby, shopping, or dreaming of the ocean on the East Coast. (gotta love the taste of salt water!)
