Simon Reid, a grade 10 student at Cochrane High School, submitted the following story which commemorates Canadian heritage.
The Western Heritage Centre
When the Western Heritage Centre opens its doors to visitors for the first time this summer in Cochrane, Alberta, it will be the first major Canadian attraction dedicated to the history of Western life in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
The Centre will feature a wide variety of exhibits, including:
- a Virtual Reality exhibit simulating calf-roping and bull-dodging
- a Rodeo Hall of Fame
- various agricultural and ranching displays.
Computer touch-screens, animatronics, a two-hundred seat theatre and other high-tech equipment will bring the Centre to life and stimulate learning. Visitors will also be able to view historical records describing ranches, their holdings and the people of the past.
A visit to the Western Heritage Centre is sure to be a rewarding experience for everyone. From performing surgery on a pseudo-cow to wandering the Canadian West Art Gallery, you are sure to be impressed and entertained by the West's unique heritage.

Le Centre Western Heritage
Le Centre Western Heritage (Centre du Patrimoine de l'ouest) ouvrira ses portes aux visiteurs cet été à Cochrane en Alberta. Le Centre deviendra la première attraction consacré à l'histoire de la vie dans l'ouest canadien au Manitoba, au Saskatchewan, en Alberta et en Colombie Brittanique.
Le Centre comptera parmi ses multiples expositions:
- Une exposition en Réalité Virtuelle permettant au visiteur de participer à divers compétitions d'un rodéo
- Le temple de la renommée du Rodéo
- divers expositions portant sur l'agriculture et l'élevage d'animaux.
Le Centre intégrera la haute technologie avec des expositions multi-médias, de l'animation informatique et une auditorium. Les visiteurs pourront voir des documents historiques sur les ranchs et nos ancêtres.
Il y aura quelque chose pour tout le monde au Centre Western Heritage. D'une opération chirurgicale sur une vache artificielle à une visite de la gallerie d'art, tous seront impressionnés par la patrimoine unique de l'ouest.
