Personal Story:
A struggle to define

Pascale, 24, Laval, Québec

"Canada's greatest asset is diversity. At one extreme there is the uniqueness of the individual and at the other extreme, all citizens of the earth. Somewhere in the middle lies a Canadian identity.

There is a misbelief that Canadians don't have a culture. If you were put in a small village in another country, you would discover your culture. By getting to know other cultures, we get to know our own. You have to know who you are. Then you have to get to know others.

Confront your own culture. Can you define your culture? Can you pinpoint differences and similarities between your background and others?

Are these different enough that you can talk about a different culture? These are all questions to be pondered and the answers will differ for each us."
