Of course there are things youth can do about unemployment and environmental degradation.

Instead of concentrating your energies on training for and trying to find jobs and careers that are harmful to the environment, with a little bit of knowledge, imagination and innovation, young people can create jobs and careers that are ecologically sound and beneficial.

Eco-entrepreneurship offers a huge range of possibilities for young people. It's in this area that youth can further challenge the way people have been taught to do things, and even begin to ask questions: Are there other ways to build houses or cars that won't destroy the environment? Are there better ways to conserve energy? What new products can I create that will met the needs of environmentally conscious people? What new service can I provide?

There are so many questions that need to be asked, and so many more innovative, and ecologically beneficial ways to answer them. Young people have an opportunity to build an eco-economy... to create employment opportunities for themselves by being aware of some of the problems facing the global environment, and devising new strategies to attack them. And there are many young people who are creating their own jobs using this kind of eco-entrepreneurship.

Stay tuned for more profiles on young eco-entrepreneurs.

If you have a great idea on how to invent a better future, or know other young people who are already doing it, tell us about it, so we can profile these activities and business on our web site.
