Bell High / Centennial/ Auburn: RM:PE is the youth version of Agenda 21, the
document that came out of the Earth Summit in Rio, 1992. Young people around
the world wanted to make a book that discussed the environmental issues they
felt were important.

Spruce: we helped with some of the Rescue Mission project and we're hoping
to help people learn how to use the material. We're in Toronto but we work
all over Canada!

Spruce, we know your school has helped with RM:PE. There are a few other
schools too. How did you help?

We took up the challenge by being given two chapters from the original
agenda 21. We were given two chapters. One on poverty and one on
consumption, and we were asked to rewrite them. In addition we contributed
poetry, and artwork towards the children's edition of agenda 21.

Bell, Agenda 21 is the document that world governments agreed on at the
Earth Summit. It's a plan of action for bettering the world environment!

Rescue Mission Planet Earth (RM:PE) is the youth version of Agenda 21. You

This has become a focus for our curriculum for science, English, and math.
And last year in February some of us travelled to Ottawa to present a copy
of the book to the assistant deputy Prime Minister, Sheila Copps. This year we
were nominated for a YTV student achievement award.

Centennial: Agenda 21 covers the issues of poverty, consumption, pollution
and resources and a ton of other social and environmental issues

The original agenda 21 was a document tabled at the Rio summit and was
signed by 175 world leaders. It was supposed to be a blueprint to take the
planet to the 21st century.
