Hello is anyone out there?I have a major problem with the idiocy of the
society. They are afraid to discuss real issues to brainstorm creative
ideas to eliminate difficulties in society, especially government they
need to get into the streets and experience the so called "street life"
before they can begin to discuss it.

Bell High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 12:58AM EST (-0500 GMT)
We're here and waiting!

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 12:58AM EST (-0500 GMT)
So, how many of you out there know anything about Rescue Mission: Planet
Earth... the book, and the process?

Cawthra: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 12:58AM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG, it's a pleasure to participate in this event!

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 12:59AM EST (-0500 GMT)

in Nova Scotia.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:00PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We agree with what WHCI said. Real life experiences are very important,
especially with the environment.

Bell High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:00PM EST (-0500 GMT)
The particular group of students here have little or no knowledge of
RM:PE... could we get an introduction?

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:01PM EST (-0500 GMT)
HI! I'm just the webmaster at Centennial. What is Rescue Mission Earth?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:01PM EST (-0500 GMT)
What kinds of stuff are you guys doing in your schools... related to the
environment I mean?

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:01PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We don't know much on the Rescue Mission: Planet Earth only what Denise told
me on the phone today.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:01PM EST (-0500 GMT)
On chat for Centennial is Kris Castle.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We operate a salmon hatchery at Centennial.

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Your right Bell High I have no idea what you mean by RM:PE.Would you care
to elaborate?

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hello! We up and running now!

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We've got two connections here. We are studying environmental issues in
our OAC "World Issues" class, studied the theories, and are hoping for a
good session today.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High / Centennial, RM:PE is the youth version of Agenda 21, the
document that came out of the Earth Summit in Rio, 1992. Young people around
the world wanted to make a book that discussed the environment issues the
felt were important.

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:04PM EST (-0500 GMT)
At our school we recycle and we do periodic cleanups. We are also trying to
begin a composting program. Tomorrow we are travelling to Amsterdam for the
World youth caretakers of the environment conference

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:04PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi there, we are at Emery C.I in North York on and ready to go!

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
By the way, RM:PE is being mailed to every school in Canada. Look out for it!

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Where is Bell High located?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Amsterdam!? Wow... so far the best we've done is drink real well water. :)

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi Everybody, We are a public school from Huntsville, Ontario. We have
been taking part in Rescue Mission Planet Earth throughout the school year
and are here for the chat.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High School 3 is up and going

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High School is in Nepean, Ontario (near Ottawa).

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Canadians are worried about their fish resources, but few do anything about
it. We are enhancing populations and restoring fish habitat. The salmon to
us are a keystone species. That is , lots of other life forms depend on
them or their environment

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn, can you tell us a little bit more about the Amsterdam conference?

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi North York. This is the webmaster at Centennial in Coquitlam, B.C. Where
are you from?

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:07PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial: Where are you located?

www.tgmag.ca

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Is your fish resource threatened due to overfishing or pollution or
otherwise?

Generation2000: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi folks, we're here for the chat!

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We've got an interesting situation out here because a new 4-lane
superhighway (the 416 extension) is being built a mere 20 meters away from
our school. It's in a large depression, and we've got a lot of
environmental concerns over its construction.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial, do you have any new ideas about the fishery?

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We are in a suburb east of Vancouver, where is Bell High School

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Well, we're not actually going right into Amsterdam. Just south of
Amsterdam, in Heerlen. It's a conference on environment development and
education and research. It's the 10th international conference of its type
so far. There are 25 countries being represented and we are the only
representatives of Canada (we think) :)

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:09PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Does anyone want to know anything about Rescue Mission: Planet Earth?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:09PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn, how are you funding this trip?

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:09PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Can you tell us a bit more about the salmon hatchery? We don't know anything
about it.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Yes! I'm very interested to hear about RM:PE

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
At our school we have a group called the "Green Team". They attend
to recycling. The "Beyonders" are an outdoors group which overseas outdoor
clean up and general fun. Hi Denise from Tao and Richard remember us from
SAGE (Students Acting for Global Equality)

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn, that sounds cool. What issues are you discussing at the conference?

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High: Fund raising (I guess that is pretty obvious, isn't it?) :) These
included an auction, car washes, barbecues, bottle drives, etc.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: we'll be awaiting the book and looking at your web site, but
we're certainly interested in learning about this project.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Generation2000, Where are you coming from?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hey there! Environment problems aren't always global. I live in a small town
and we are having major problems with our sewage lagoons. An environmental
study was done, but it was disgustingly biased! The committee left out so
many factors. We are still fighting so that the unenvironmental solution
won't be passed. Any comments?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce, can you describe for everyone how you helped create the Canadian
edition of RM:PE?

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi! We are from Toronto, Ontario. We are just experimenting with this new
interface...

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn: How many people are going on the trip?

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
What would you like to know?

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:12PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tgmag: There are 7 main themes: Industrial development, developing
environment, energy development and environment, education, art and the
environment, the global neighbourhood, and outdoor/recreation.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:12PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We're also experimenting. It's quite interesting what a very old version of
Netscape can do.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:12PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Our fishing resources are threatened by Pollution, development and
over-fishing. Our idea is to involve the community in protecting and raising
fish and their habitats. We raise 100's of thousands of fish each year and
release them into small streams and creeks around the Lower Mainland of BC.

Generation2000: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:13PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: we helped with some of the Rescue Mission project and we're hoping
to help people learn how to use the material. We're in Toronto but we work
all over Canada!

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:13PM EST (-0500 GMT)
here at WHCI we are named the first environmental school of Canada.we have
courses focused on environmental issues. Once a year schools excused for
half a day to clean up the river valley beside us. We also have recycling
boxes in every class room and they are cleared every week.

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:13PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High: 5 students and one teacher are going on the trip. It's 12 days.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:13PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High School3, WHAT version of Netscape are you using?!!!

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial: How are things going? Any progress so far?

WEST PARK: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
SPRUCE...What exactly have you been involved in with Rescue mission planet
earth??

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce, we know your school has helped with RM:PE. There are a few other
schools too. How did you help?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We've been studying some of the issues regarding the 416 construction.. the
depression it rests in is below the level of the local pond (which Bell HS
uses for canoeing and outdoor Ed.) and engineers had to create new ways to
solve drainage problems (like building a cement plant right in the
construction!) So, while we're not doing anything as exotic as a missions
conference, we have been busy with these studies.

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI: How many students are enrolled in your environment-related course(s)
at your school?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell high school 2 and 3 are using Netscape 1.22 if I am not mistaken.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High School3....Hello?

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi, we're a bit late, and we're not very efficient at communicating like
this...

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We took up the challenge by being given two chapters from the original
agenda 21. We were given two chapters. One on poverty and one on
consumption, and we were asked to rewrite them. In addition we contributed
, poetry, and artwork towards the children's edition of agenda 21.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
You should upgrade to Netscape 2.02 if you can.

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Notre Dame: Welcome!

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Lame-o Bell HS 2 and 3 are on Netscape 1.12. Bell HS 1 is on Netscape
2.01.Visit Bell HS at button

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:16PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I hear that Microsoft Internet Explorer is supposed to blow the doors off
of Netscape. Does Bill Gates have to own everything?!

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:16PM EST (-0500 GMT)
oh yeah? visit us at button

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:16PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Sorry that should be button

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:16PM EST (-0500 GMT)
There are about 35 students in this semester's World Issues class. We focus
on worldwide issues; our current unit is environmental impact.

Auburn High: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:17PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Version 3, that is. I took a look at the Beta version and it
looked impressive, much faster than Netscape. Anyways, back to the
enviro-chat people :)

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:17PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Relaxe, everyone is experimenting with this technology, including us. We
hope we will all be working together on Agenda 21 issues next year! This is
a beginning!

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:17PM EST (-0500 GMT)
What's the current topic of discussion?!

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:17PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Here at Bell High we also have an environment club. It consists of 1 teacher
and about 8 students. We had a Pitch-in Day to clean up the area.
Unfortunately, it poured! Oh well. Our club also has put in a full blue box
system.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:18PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Is there a directed discussion on this webchat?

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:18PM EST (-0500 GMT)
You may be surprised at how small an effective operation can be. The hatchery
consists of an incubation room that holds about 60 incubation trays. Each
tray holds about 8000 eggs. There are four troughs for raising fry. As well,
a small pond for Coho smolts to spend a year in. All of these facilities are
fed by Mossom Creek. The water is recycled back into the creek.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tgmag: Please tell us what Agenda 21 and RM:PE is. We at Bell don't know
anything about it.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
This has become a focus for our curriculum for science, English, and math.
And last year in February some of us travelled to Ottawa to present a copy
of the book to the assistant deputy Prime Minister, Sheila Copps. This year we
were nominated for a YTV student achievement award.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bravo on the lagoons action. Not many people know that raw sewage is the
biggest cause of water pollution.

Generation2000: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Can everyone do what Bell High just did and tell us what kind of
environmental clubs or activities you've got going at your schools?

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High School2...What are you doing on this subject?

WEST PARK: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
In our area, the Niagara River, toxic chemicals are being dumped
uncontrollably. Does anyone have a similar situation???

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:20PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG at Notre Dame is also an environmental club - it stands for The World
Issues Group. It also came out of World Issues Geography last year.We only
have 11 people, so it's a challenge to get our whole school motivated (1800
people).

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:20PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We've been involved in field trips to Mer Bleu (a local-ish peat bog)
and the Bill Mason centre (outdoors/conservation)... science classes used
to study the forest across the street, but ... 416 ...Any suggestions
what else we could do in our area?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:20PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell, Agenda 21 is the document that world governments agreed on at the
Earth Summit. It's a plan of action for bettering the world environment!

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:21PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Is anyone else involved in fish enhancement or stream keeping?

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:21PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial salmon: Has your municipality come up with any new by-laws to
protect the new fry and prevent further damage?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:21PM EST (-0500 GMT)
No we are not involved in fish enhancement or stream keeping?

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG where are you from?

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
S.A.G.E. has dealt with equity issues over the last four years but we would
to be more involved with environmental concerns and solutions.
Enthusiastic for ideas.I really hope they do not clear cut that old pine
growth near Ottawa If there is anyone that knows anything about this tell
the chat group

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Near our school there has been a lot of residential construction... the
ravine has deteriorated!!We want to organize a river clean-up. We thought
this would get people involved so that they can see the pollution problem
...if they cannot see it it's harder for people to understand

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:23PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Rescue Mission Planet Earth (RM:PE) is the youth version of Agenda 21. You
can learn lots more at the website . Get there by pressing this and
bookmarking this button

Generation2000: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:23PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High 1: yes!! RM:PE is going to come to your school and talk about
environmental issues and sustainable development. There is also an action
guide available in the book.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:23PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Salmon: We have studied the impact of overfishing on fish stocks.

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:23PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We are currently preparing a project on the restoration of Bisset Lake...
It's being gradually polluted by the development of the area,Colby
Village. It is infested with toxic mutagens and chemicals and tires and
boots and stuff. ;)

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:24PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tg mag... What is Agenda 21 and how could we help?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:25PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We are going to be presenting our Operation: Restore Bisset Lake at the
conference in Amsterdam.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:25PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: We are from Brampton, Ont.Banting: We didn't know there is old
growth near Ottawa! What is the latest info on Temagami? Is the development
plan decided on?We sent some petitions, but haven't heard anything since

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:25PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: You made a good point because I don't see any pollution where I live
and honestly I can say I'm not feeling as if I'm affected

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:25PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We have a program going on at our school called "Spruce up Spruce Glen". We
had a severe storm last year that tore down some of our trees. Now we are
trying to make our school look nicer and to make more habitats for
animals.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:25PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Yes, developers will soon have to put up a siltation damage deposit before
breaking ground. If this by-law goes through, the developer will lose the
deposit which would be used to clean up the damage. A negligent developer
can also be charged under the fisheries act (Federal).

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:26PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn Drive.... Are you trying to restore any certain species there?

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:26PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn, at WHCI in every course it is mandatory that there be a environmental
component.Whether it is a ISU or a short essay. We have an Environmental
Science course and a Geography course focused on current issues and
ills.We also have a club named the Global Action Team, who look at both
social and green environment.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:26PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Do you people have an environmental club?

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:26PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Salmon: Did your fish hatching plant receive any government
subsidies? (Municipal? Provincial? Federal?)

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:26PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Our school is not involved in a fish enhancement but I am doing a CO-OP at
the Ministry of Natural Resources in Maple in September.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:27PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Let's get an idea of who's representing the schools. Here on Bell HS
stations 1-3 we've got senior students. How about you guys?

Generation2000: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:27PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tg: what's the history of RM:PE?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:27PM EST (-0500 GMT)

and resources and a ton of other social and environmental issues

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:28PM EST (-0500 GMT)
hi, auburn! :)

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:28PM EST (-0500 GMT)
What do you all think about technology's effect on the environment? I think
this type of conversation is great because of the Internet, but do you think
all this fast technology is making us lazy, and then, not wanting to get up
and do anything?

: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:28PM EST (-0500 GMT)
have any of you met with any local levels of government to express concerns
about local environmental issues??

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:28PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi Auburn. We acknowledge your presence.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:28PM EST (-0500 GMT)
At Centennial we have senior students as well

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:28PM EST (-0500 GMT)
the original agenda 21 was a document tabled at the Rio summit and was
signed by 175 world leaders. It was supposed to be a blueprint to take the
planet to the 21st century.

Who is representing TG Mag on this chat

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:29PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Banting: Where are you people located?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:29PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Using RM:PE, in your schools and doing the kinds of environmental activities
that you are doing, you are already helping.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:29PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Sorry, Auburn,we'll talk to you, we are feeling the same way! Where are you
from, do you have an environmental group, what are you doing?

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:29PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Our salmon hatchery received donations from about 100 corporate and
community sponsors. Federal Fisheries supplies part of our materials, like
fish food and repair materials.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:30PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hello Auburn!

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:30PM EST (-0500 GMT)
no, We are only a small group. What we are aiming for is to try and clean up
the lake for people can enjoy the lake as they used to. We want the wild
life , like ducks to be able to live there again.

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:30PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We would be very interested in RM:PE coming to our school, can you tell us
about it.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:31PM EST (-0500 GMT)
There are only two of us here representing Twig at our school.. the others
couldn't get out of class...

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:31PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial: BEAUTIFUL web page. -- Bell H.S. webmaster

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:31PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Banting: You're talking to a bunch of high school co-op students.

: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:31PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn High this is West Park. No one will talk to us either!!!!

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:31PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: We feel that this tech stuff has its ups and downs. You made a good
point about it making us lazy, but if you are careful about how you use it,
it can be an essential asset to any issue.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:31PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Salmon: Have efforts been made to prevent further damage?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:32PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: yeah... Jan and I (BHS 2+1) had to pull strings to get out of English.
But now is World Issues, and obviously our teacher let us come down for
this.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:32PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park & Auburn: Where are you from, do you have an environmental group,
how many people?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:32PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: What sort of effect do you think technology is having on the enviro.
Personally I think technology is both destructive and progressive.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:33PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High 1 ... Thanks for visiting our web-page I can't get into yours
right now but I'll be sure to check it out later.

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:33PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn don't cry you should see our message to you above.Twig at Notre
Dame, I agree with you completely, technology is slowly killing
society. No one walks any more it is too tiring. That's why society weight
average is increasing there are a number of people in the world too fat to
get out of their own bed. This is ridiculous! We need to get up and
exercise.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:33PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell: Our class is a sort of environmental club. We consider ourselves as
one. Anyone: we area group of grade 7/8 students. Auburn: Well what do
you want to talk about?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:33PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi to Bell High, TWIG and Centennial webmaster, you people are the greatest.
We're from the east coast of Nova Scotia in Dartmouth. We have to go to an
interview right now, but some one else will be here to answer any of your
questions. Hey check out these faces }:-) {:-( Ok now we'll talk enviro chat
stuff

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:34PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Technology is making is more dependent on energy and resources (silicon for
computers, etc.) while at the same time we can monitor these resources on a
more global basis.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:34PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Technology is making us more dependent on energy and resources (silicon for
computers, etc.) while at the same time we can monitor these resources on a
more global basis.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:34PM EST (-0500 GMT)
BHS 1,2,3: So what have you people been doing?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:35PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: We agree. In one sense, technology can help us fix many of the worlds
problems, but it also helps create them.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:35PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI/NN: On the other hand, it would be a really long walk to come talk to
you guys.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:35PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Salmon: You were mentioning the silt damage deposit. Does this
damage often occur from deforestation or just basic construction dust?

: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:35PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG this is West Park. We have been limited to what are enviro club can do
for our area because of work-to-rule!!

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:35PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tgmag: We have a club at Auburn High we are located in Nova Scotia.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:36PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We've mentioned the various clubs and activities our school has done (the
bog, the conservation centre, the enviro-club and blue box stuff) as
well as monitoring the 416 construction just outside. Our World Issues
class considers much of the theory involved.

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:37PM EST (-0500 GMT)
...Does anyone know how to set up a MUS* for chatting?

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:37PM EST (-0500 GMT)
One way to prevent further damage is to raise awareness about what is
inhabiting our streams. Representatives of major land developers have
witnessed the release of several 1000 chum salmon into streams near future
development sites. This allows them to see the work being done to enhance
salmon, thus they may be more careful with their decisions.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:37PM EST (-0500 GMT)
To all the schools: You guys are environmentally active, but how do you get
others involved?

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:37PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi TWIG - What does TWIG mean?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:38PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tg mag: how long is this chat scheduled to continue for?

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:38PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TGMAG & TWIG:It is hard to dismiss the importance of technology,so as the
youth of our society the best thing to do is communicate and relate
solutions to maintaining a balance of environmental security and
technological advancement. We usually sacrifice the environment.

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:38PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Your programs on education on the environment sound really interesting (at
Bell High)

Centennial webmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:38PM EST (-0500 GMT)
hellooooo?any one know how to set up a MUS* for chatting?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:39PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell H.S.: the chat goes on for another 20 mins. but they won't kick us off.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:39PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We make announcements, special fundraisers, pitch-in days (even though it
poured that day), etc.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:39PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Nova Scotia.. wow you are far away! Technology questions: I think
technology is making us used to quick answers, such that we don't want to
think. Technology is helping us in a way figure out what exactly the
problems are with the environment.. we have to be careful how we use it... we
also cannot rely solely on it to fix our problems.. after all, nature has
all the answers to everything, and we don't know comparative anything

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:39PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West park: You should put your school's name in the handel space under this
screen.Banting:RM:PE stands for Rescue Mission Planet Earth. RM:PE is a book
written for kids by kids. It concerns the environment and saving it! We
are trying to make our world last longer.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:39PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Silt damage is caused by both Forestry and development. Our hatchery is
located in the forest, however Mossom Creek runs through new developed
areas.

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:40PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG...what grades are you?? what environmental classes does your school
offer? West Park only has geography classes. Grade 11 deals with the
environment and natural disasters

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:40PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We have an extensive blue-box program that encourages student participation
as well.So far it's mostly limited to students and local community.

Cawthra: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:40PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi We're Cawthra Park SS from Mississauga, Ontario, Why doesn't the Canadian
Government put more restrictions on environmental pollution?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:40PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial: How do you get the community so involved? We have that problem
with plans . People are interested but they always have an excuse

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:40PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Let's keep talking about the enviro. If you want to know about MUS* talk to
School Net

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:40PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Salmon: Are the companies all 'local' or are they
inter-provincial/national?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:40PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park: Well, our school had work-to-rule last year. We sympathize with
you people. We had the exact same problem. All of our clubs and activities
were cancelled and/or delayed.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:41PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tgmag: What if we feel like staying on for the rest of the day?

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:41PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: It's great to see the young people working on this great issue at
your school. I hope you bring that spirit to high school.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:42PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Are efforts being made to reduce the amount of deforestation?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:42PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: don't you have *schoolwork*? :)

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:43PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell/Centennial: How do we get other schools to duplicate your successes?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:43PM EST (-0500 GMT)
re: environmental regulations: it's not always that easy. It's easy to
say"let's reduce pollution" but in practice big corporations don't always
feel like spending the money for it. They operate pretty pragmatically.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:43PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We offer tours to Elementry Schools, give slide presentations to the
community, go to all the environmental fairs and set up displays, as well as
travel around and get our hatchery known in the Lower Mainland of BC.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:43PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Anyone: Technology may be making us lazy. At least we can talk to people
that we wouldn't be able to talk to on a regular basis. It is also
important to know what is going on around the world!

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:43PM EST (-0500 GMT)
How do you get other people involved?

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:43PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Twig stands for The World Issues Group -- out of OAC geography last year,
but has now all level of students West Park: Work to rule is frustrating..
a couple of years ago we had the same situation: How we motivate other: It's
Hard, we've done announcements (some crazy ones i.e Star Trek...)tons of
posters (we reuse the paper) , we've organized petitions, did 30-hour
Famine, Helped with FREE CORKY campaign, expanded recycling at our school

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:44PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tgmag@tgmag.ca, at WHCI (West Humber Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke)are
school spirit is dead but we are trying very hard to spark it up. We have
contests and games and last week it was spirit week getting students
involved with different clubs around the school. Some students are working
on the development of two CD-Roms and a curriculum involving the Healthy
House unplugged. We hold focus groups and we have worked with the artist to
develop the animation for an interactive game.Might I add this is ONLY one
student in grade 12, and one teacher talking right now.

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:44PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We started a "Green Club" last year, but not much happened this year...we
need your ideas about how to keep interest in the environment alive

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:44PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Get the students interested in environmental issues. That's the first bit.
Some of it can be voluntary (like pitch-in days) and others like the trip
to the bog are built-into the curriculums. Once students are interested,
enviro-clubs and such can be put together and it should all go on from
there! :)

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:44PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell high school 3 this is West Park. How did your school get back on track
towards environmental issues? Did you loose school spirit? if so then how
did you get it back??

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:45PM EST (-0500 GMT)

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:46PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hey Emery C.I.! You guys should get in on the discussion. Can you offer any
comments on any of the topics?

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:46PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Please tell us more about the FREE CORK campaign

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:47PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Mc Duck: Do you have an enviro-club? How many members if so?

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:47PM EST (-0500 GMT)
The idea about walking was excellent. Walk-a-thons are popular right
now.It would be exciting to organize a Canada wide telephone game
where youth walk to meeting places, to share ideas raise money and tackle
problems in the local area.

very cool book.

Bell: what are the *buttons*?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:49PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi McDuck, we are a national magazine based in Toronto.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:50PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial: Could your hatchery be considered a tourist attraction, or are
tours given merely for educational purposes? (I'm getting flak from my
fellow Bellers because I keep asking intelligent questions. To Kev, Martha,
Alan, Hillary, and Kingston, I say: Boo to you.)

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:50PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Kids love our tours, we do fish dissections for them and we let them release
their own fish. By doing this for the kids they tell their parents and they
begin to realize the problem and try and help. Locally it doesn't effect us a
great deal economically. It mostly effects Vancouver and bigger hatcheries.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:50PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park: Fortunately, Bell High has an awesome Principal and
Vice-Principal. They have always supported our school in everything we do.
Our school has bounced back from a very bad reputation since they came here.
But, they are both retiring this year!! We are very sad to see them go. :(
Thanks to them, Bell High is full of spirit and we do a ton of charity work
and other activities.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:51PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Emery: The Free Corky campaign was going on just before Mother's Day to free
a whale in SeaWorld, San Diego C.A that was taken from B.C. waters and kept
in captivity for 26 years. Paul Spong I think organized this - a whale
expert. On Mom's Day, a banner surrounded Sea World (5 km long). It was made
up of squares of cloth with signatures, sewed together. We sent a section. I
called there afterwards and they said they didn't get as many people out, but
they MADE SEA WORLD NERVOUS. DON'T KNOW IF SHE'S FREE YET

Cawthra: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:51PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Emery, there should be groups around lake Ontario to make it a public
priority to clean up lake Ontario

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:52PM EST (-0500 GMT)
When exactly do the books come around? I think it is a great asset to
education on the environment.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:52PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Cent: that sounds really great! (fish) community involvement is probably the
most dramatic way a school can make an impact.. congratulations.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We had delegates form China come for a tour, as well as government working
women from China. Tours are booked ahead but we do have open house once or
twice a year.

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
It is very difficult to keep track of all these good comments. TG Mag are
you documenting this? Is CBC involved in any capacity?

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Emery ... we are also located along lake Ontario! where are you along the
lake? We are near the Niagara river and at our beaches there is tons of
pollution from Niagara River This could be why there isn't any salmon in
our lake anymore?

Generation2000: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I believe that the books are on route now but may take awhile to get to each
school... keep your eyes open!

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
To everyone, are there any other tools that your schools need to help
sustain your environmental activism?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Cent: sounds like you're putting a LOT of effort (and money!) into
your program.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial: Salmon fishing is not a prominent source of employment for you
then?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Jan at Bell 2: What was that? Thanks a lot. Remember, I know where you live!
Your friend, Martha. :)

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:54PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Does anyone know if sewers are attached to water treatment facilities? If
people knew that the chemicals and pesticides, and oil..etc.. cannot and are
not being cleaned out of the water, the public may take more responsibility

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:54PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Thanks Bell High we try hard to make progress and enhance peoples education

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:54PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag: well, I'm sure fish dissection kits and programs to involve other
schools would be cool. :) Does the book contain resources for practical
applications a school can involve itself in?

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:54PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Thanks for the info TWIG - it sounds like an exciting project

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:55PM EST (-0500 GMT)
ALL SCHOOLS: has anyone heard about the Caretakers of the Environment and
development in Education and Research? It takes place in the Netherlands. Is
anyone attending?

: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:55PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag ...Denise ....this is Rod at Centennial. Do you have any plans to
continue the chat?

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:55PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hello why didn't any one respond to my lovely message we are beginning to
feel unwanted here. Please respond we are running out of time.
Approximately two years ago we had a Environmental Bill of Rights
launched from our school. Premier Bob Rae visited our school and gave a
speech concerning the topic.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:55PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Banting: Yes we are going to save the chat when it's finished, organize it
and put highlights up on the web page so that we can build on the ideas
shared here and share them with others.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
No problem, Emery.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I am a grade 11 student, me and about 25 other students help only about 5
other full to part time adult volunteers. We do make a big effort but cost
is rarely a problem for it is mostly volunteer

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We plan to keep a transcript of this chat session too.. it'll be interesting
to see.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial: I noticed that you had people from China coming from your
school... are you Chinese, by any chance?

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Magazine - we'd love to know more about your magazine - do you still have
some back issues that we can use a resource in our work?

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High, where is your school located?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:57PM EST (-0500 GMT)
After hearing that there is actually curriculum taught about the environment
I am jealous. I think if our school had courses like others we would have a
greater knowledge of the condition our world is in. This is the tool our
school needs.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:57PM EST (-0500 GMT)
What about co-op programs with environmental organizations? (an idea)

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:57PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG at ND: I'm not sure if sewers are attached to water treatment
facilities. I live in a rural area where our water is supplied by well (one
per household) and we have our own septic system with a field.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:57PM EST (-0500 GMT)
No, more than half of our volunteers are.

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:57PM EST (-0500 GMT)
The purpose of this session is to create advocacy. Is there going to be a
follow-up? We need concrete info>PLEASE!!!!

Centennial Fishmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag ...Denise do you have any questions for us? Rod/Ruth

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Sorry everybody. Someone just sat on our cord. tgmag: We were just talking
to Bell high 1.Auburn: We are situated in beautiful Huntsville, Ontario.
Just 2 and a half hours north of Toronto.Anyone: Brianne (the one that sat
on our cord), says she's sorry.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High is very near the political heart of Canada, in Nepean, Ontario.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell: The Canadian. edition of Rescue Mission: Planet Earth has an action guide insert with activities
and lesson plans for schools to take real action and learn about these
issues.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Anyone know of any project / info about beluga whales? I read article in the
Toronto Star. What does everyone(anyone?) think about banning all pesticides?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI/NN : HELLO NO ONE IS TALKING TO US EITHER. WHAT TYPE OF FIGURE IS THISMAN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:59PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: your school sounds like a lot of fun. ;)

Banting Memorial H.S.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:59PM EST (-0500 GMT)
When is the chat over

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:59PM EST (-0500 GMT)

today?:)

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 1:59PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn and WHCI: sorry you feel neglected.. but feel free to jump in on the
conversations. :)

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:00PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Rod: The chat can continue as long as people want to. What we'd like to do
is also plan a series of chats for next year to keep the discussion and
action going. Anyone interested?

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:00PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn, we were talking to you before, but no one responds!

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:00PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn: We have heard from tg mag that stuff is coming around to all of the
schools to tell them about it. And to let you take part!

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:01PM EST (-0500 GMT)
We'd be happy to participate in chats in the future.. this is quite an
experience.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:01PM EST (-0500 GMT)

and Richard (SAGE)Save the world. Be green

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
The CD on environmental curriculum written by teachers at WHCI has been sent
out to every high school in Ontario.Look out for it or ask your principal
if he/she has received it yet.

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park is definitely interested in further chats throughout the year.
tell us more about these chats.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag: We realize you are trying to direct the conversation somewhere...
how many people are trying to talk here? What was that last question you
asked us?

Barb: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Any chance of having a guess speaker...say David Suzuki's daughter who was
one of the original people to go to the Rio Summit?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Thanks Guys! I was feeling a little lonely.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
To get a record of all this chatting, just put "300" or something in the box
that says "Scroll Back" and save what you get.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: Not all sewers and treatment plants are the same. The ones in your
area might use chemicals, they might not. It would be interesting to find
out. I know that our lagoons in Munster are overloaded, so the sewage is
seeping into the small river near my house. That is why my parents are
involved in the fight for a cleaner solution to our problem.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Re: TG Magazine: It's on-line weekly. We are looking for environmental
articles and anything else that interests you. We accept both French and
English articles. SEND US SOME!! e-mail us at tgmag@tgmag.ca

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Unfortunately we have to get to our next class or we would have stayed a
little bit longer. Keep up the good environmental work!!!

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I think these chats are great!!: )

Cawthra: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hi there randy {our V.P. wants to take us all on a trip to meet all of you}

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Sorry guys have to go to class if you have any more questions Rod and Ruth
will be happy to answer them

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI : who are you? Sorry, we didn't notice when you / we jumped in Where

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
To everyone: e-mail us and tell us about your environmental activities so we
can add them to our RM:PE web page

Centennial Fishmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHIC/NN ... ABOUT FEELING UNWANTED ...we just do not have the skill to keep
up to date on the chat. How did your Bill of Rights end up? What did the
loss of the NDP Govt. effect it? We made sure that an enviro. friendly govt.
stayed in power.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Salmon: What is the main source of economic activity in your
town/city? Do most residents commute to Vancouver? Does fishing/forestry
play a prominent role?

Cawthra: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:05PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell, we don't think so, can you tell us where we can obtain one?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: What type of activities are you involved in? I am assuming you are at
the University.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: Yea Huntsville! I am a regular visitor at Doe Lake Girl Guide Camp
in Spruce dale. Is your school actually in Spruce dale? (hence the name)

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Where is randy... Our V.P. wants to take us on a trip to meet you all

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Humber: We are interested in bringing together a group of students and
teachers to write curriculum in August. Are you interested?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Cawthra: tg mag said that one edition comes with the guide as an insert.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hey, everyone's leaving it seems! We can stay longer (Please talk to us) We
want to know if there is any new info on Temagami, beluga whales, and any
possibility of group ventures or conferences. Thanks for the sewer info

Barb: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:06PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park. the Rio summit was the original activity that prompted the making
of RM:PE

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:07PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell 1: Our school is a lot of fun and all of us (even though we may not know
it) really enjoy being here! TWIG: My grandfather was an organic farmer.
That means that he wouldn't use any pesticides at all. It didn't cost him
as much and his produce was the first to go at market.Auburn: Ask us about
something and we will talk to you about it! TG Magazine: We would be
very interested if there were more chats conducted next year. They run very
smoothly!!

Emery C.I.: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:07PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Thanks TG Mag for organising this web chat - my students. - who have had to
go to class - enjoyed the ideas and the use of Internet

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: we have been on since 12:45 but people are ignoring us.This chat
line would be perfect if someone would respond to us.WHCI, like we said
before, is WEST HUMBER COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE.we are not far from you TWIG, we are on the border of Etobicoke and Mississauga.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Barb, our "invironmental" club got a letter from David Suzuki about our club
and what we do.

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Well, what type of projects are you guys involved in?

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:08PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn: no we are at Notre Dame High School in Brampton. We have organized
petitions, expanded recycling, lots of posters, announcements...

Barb: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:09PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell 2: Ya, he's a cool guy. Hhe's a big supporter of Generation 2000 who is
also here chatting.

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:09PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: To add on that last comment, here in the Regional Municipality of
Ottawa-Carleton, there is a phase in which the sewage is sent through a
section where bacteria does the job, and not chemicals. Also, at the end of
the process, if I am not mistaken, they add a bit of Fluorine to the water
to increase the pH level.

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:09PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Barb... how can we get more info or involved in RM:PE?

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Hey TWIG, well you want someone to talk to you. What should we talk about?.
I have no info on any topics that you asked about.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:10PM EST (-0500 GMT)
To all who are feeling ignored: We don't think it's deliberate, that's why
we are going to save the discussion and share it back with you, because
there are many great ideas going around, and many unanswered questions. We
are hoping to get that up on the Web A.S.A.P.

Cawthra: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
My grade ten geography class has completed a number of ISU's about the
environment and we want to chat

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Humber: Sorry neighbours! What have you guys been up to? Our group is
only 1 year old, so though we are known in school, we are small and not
completely established. We need to get idea on how to attract people

Generation2000: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park: check out the RM:PE book when it gets to your school. There are
ideas and stuff that you can do!

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:11PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Barb, he asked us all about what we thought about a few things and his
beliefs, it was interesting! anyhow where are you located?

Barb: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:12PM EST (-0500 GMT)
My best guess is to call TG Mag at (416) 597-8297 or you might try
Generation 2000 at 1 800 565-5847. If I recall correctly it also has some
government involvement but I forget which branch...

Centennial Fishmaster: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:12PM EST (-0500 GMT)
The day is still young in B.C.( its not even lunch yet). We have a group of
students going to S.E.Alaska this summer to camp in Frederick sound and do
photo identifications on Humpback whales. We are into whales, seals salmon
and lots of aquatic biology topics

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:12PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park: You can get more info about RM:PE on our website. Books are being
shipped right now and you can always talk to us. The website is a place
where people can share how they are using the book and any other concerns!

Barb: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:13PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Toronto, I use to work for Generation 2000 and was some what involved with RM:PE

Cawthra: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:13PM EST (-0500 GMT)
There are over 26 experts on Canadian issues here, does anyone have any
comments?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:13PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I'd like to know how a student can go about getting his book published...

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial fishermaster: wow this is are last class of the day! holy moly!:)

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag: we would would be interested any ideas or suggestions you have or if

394-7356.Centennial: We have a computer set up with the government where
people can ask questions about the bill of rights.there are several of
these set up in libraries throughout Ontario.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
BH3 : re fluorine...I just read an article that says Fl may be dangerous.
The government allowed it starting 1940s due to pressure from aluminium
smelting industry. The Fl put in water (they say for teeth protection) comes
from industrial toxic waste. The scientist that did studies way back when on
fluorine has admitted that his results were mistaken!!!

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell high 3: We LIVE in HUNTSVILLE. We go to SCHOOL at SPRUCE GLEN. West
Park:The Rio summit was a gathering of world leaders. About 175. They
wrote a blueprint for the planet to take us to the 21st century. It was
signed by all of the leaders present and unfortunately many countries have
forgotten how important it was.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:14PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Fishmaster: How do you get involved in saving the aquatic
ecosystem. I'm really into marine life!

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial fishmaster... good morning, our school day is almost over here in
southern Ontario.it is soooo cool that you get to go to such a camp!

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Well, Us here at Auburn have to send off soon. But we can talk of about
another ten minutes. TWIG I know someone who almost went to your school, but
her family moved to Nova Scotia instead. She is one of our club who is going
to the Netherlands. Who said that you have announcements, what type are they?

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:15PM EST (-0500 GMT)
to the 26 experts: how do you feel about school and vacations and all:)?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:16PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Sorry, it's Fluoride, not Fl

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:16PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Does anybody know what GREENPEACE is or has done lately

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:16PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I think we were the ones who had announcements at school. It was to make the
student body aware of the different programs we have available at school.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:17PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell: There's a book called "The Canadian Writer's Market" that will tell
you!

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:17PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Yes TWIG, Us here at Auburn want to know about GREENPEACE too. Can anyone help us?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:17PM EST (-0500 GMT)
The Bell 3 has taken a break. Any Flouride/ine questions should hang on a
few minutes. I used to be on Bell 2. (I was the one who asks the intelligent
questions.)

Barb: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:18PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I have to get back to work..so long everyone. It's been nice chatting..Bye

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:18PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Sounds good, thanks. Students here have written a book about web
authoring and HTML, and we've been pushing SchoolNet to help us... but
they've not been doing much yet.

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:18PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: at our school we have a point system set up. Every club or team a
student participates in goes to earning rewards at the end of the school
year. That is just a suggestion to encourage school spirit. It also
recognizes students for their efforts.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:18PM EST (-0500 GMT)
During one of our Youth week chats, a rep. from Greenpeace was here to talk
about the environment.

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:18PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I messed up!!!!running far away!

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Point system! snap fingers that's a great idea!

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Auburn: Just some reminders, mostly when we are doing campaigns ... info on
i..e Temagami, animal rights. Actually, once we were brainstorming at a
meeting and decided to do a Star Trek based one, and many of us couldn't
keep a straight face when we said it. But this made us realize that in
order to get attention to the really important stuff we believe in, it's
good sometimes to do some crazy, weird stuff. People remember it more, and
that is the goal.. to make people aware.

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:19PM EST (-0500 GMT)
West Park has to sign off soon...we look forward to chatting again real
soon

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:20PM EST (-0500 GMT)
There is a really good book on the environment. It's a photo book called ONE
EARTH, Has anyone seen it?

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:20PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Centennial Salmon: Are you still here????

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:20PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: Yes. Make it fun, and it will last. :)

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:20PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag: I think your youth week chats are an awesome idea!

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:21PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Greenpeace headquarters is based in Toronto at (416) 597-8408

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)

Great talking, guys... see ya!

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I feel so left out! No one will talk to me:(

West Park: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
This is West Park! what are the issues being discussed now

Bell High School 3: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High has been requested to go back to class. It's been a pleasure
folks. (This is the intelligent question QUEEN, signing off.) Bruins rule.

TWIG at Notre Dame: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Everyone about point system: BIG MISTAKE!!! Don't use it for too long...
here at ND 5 years ago we started a point system and "house colours" for
school spirit... no one cares now...

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
tgmag: if you plan to have any further discussions concerning environment
please make sure to contact us.

Auburn Drive High School: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:22PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Way to go TWIG. We think like you. It's good to be crazy every now and then.
Well so long for now . We'll see you soon maybe. Bye everyone.....:)

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:23PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TWIG: The goal is to make people aware. SPRUCE: For instance CKVR (Tony) is
really interested in following up and doing a story on you and RM:PE. And all
you other guys might think about contacting your local media and helping
push others using RM:PE!

Bell High School 2: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:24PM EST (-0500 GMT)
I am staying on so keep talking to Bell:)

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:24PM EST (-0500 GMT)
It was an honour to partake in this discussion. Mrs. Barnabe thanks you all.

is basketball crazy.

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:36PM EST (-0500 GMT)

Centennial salmon: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:42PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell High 1 I am into a 'west-coast' set of pursuits. The ocean , sailing,
Orcas. Gray whales, seals and just plain anything that is salty.

talking to you.

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:47PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag: in the newsletter you sent out you said there would be a chance to

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:49PM EST (-0500 GMT)
It seems as though everyone is leaving me does this mean I have to leave
too! this will probably be my first and last chance to talk to you, this
is my last year at WHCI.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:50PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Does anyone have a private chat room that they know of that we could go
to instead of going through all of these messages?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:50PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI: This has been one heck of a learning experience. It's hard to keep
onto of all the things people want to talk about. But wee will be doing this
again. Any suggestions on how we can make this chat more focused? We will
invite all the participating schools to send suggestions.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:50PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI/NN: I will be gone in a few min.:( and this is my last time on too:(

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:52PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Life does not end after high school. Cheer up. You can chat to us from
College or University... or a library. Keep in touch.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:52PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Magazine: before I am off to go home for the day:) do you have office hrs I
could have so I know when not to call or when to call?

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
ANYONE?ANYONE?ANYONE? DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY PRIVATE ROOMS IN ANY OF THE OTHER PROGRAMS WHERE YOU CAN TALK TO JUST ONE OR TWO PEOPLE IF IT GETS TOO
CROWDED?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce, we have an idea. (light bulb!) We will approach ENO (educators
network of Ontario ) or TVO to see if they can set up a conference for us.
Would that work for you?

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:53PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag: next time I suggest that their be different chat rooms for different
topics. This way people don't feel lonely. Topics can be discussed in
detail, instead of a lot of jumping back forth through topics.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:54PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bell: we are here at the office from 8:30 am until 5pm usually. Try between
then.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:54PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TGMAG: IS KARISHMA GABRIEL THERE?

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:54PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI/NN: I think that is a awesome idea!

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:55PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Sorry spruce I do no know of any chat lines, this is the first that I have
participated in.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TG Mag: I will and I will be in touch very shortly. I can not wait to talk to
you so you can see your school and what it looks like:)

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: where are you from?

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:56PM EST (-0500 GMT)
WHCI/Spruce/Bell: CBC donated this space for us to experiment. We are
learning too. Private conferences do have costs, but we have been
investigating a way of doing it. The cost is about 100$ per year, per
school. Do you think that would be viable option so w we could have unlimited
topics and focussed discissions.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:57PM EST (-0500 GMT)
TGMAG: THE REST OF THE CLASS IS DOING SOMETHING ELSE. YOU SHOULD PROBABLY TALK TO MRS. HAWKINS ABOUT THAT. I AM SURE THAT THE TEACHER (MRS.HAWKINS) WOULD BE INTERESTED.IF YOU CAN'T GET A HOLD OF HER E-MAIL THE SCHOOL AT spruceps@muskoka.com WE WOULD ENJOY HEARING FROM YOU!! :-)

Centennial: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:57PM EST (-0500 GMT)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh!WIPE OUT!

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: Karishma was here but she stepped out. I know that she thinks your
schools is amazing, and from what I know of you and what you have done, I
agree.

Bell High School 1: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)

WHCI/NN: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 2:58PM EST (-0500 GMT)

minutes. TG Mag, thank you for inviting us do not forget us next time. It
has been a pleasure and informative discussion. Later, NN.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 3:00PM EST (-0500 GMT)
BH1 : WE ARE FROM HUNTSVILLE, ONTARIO WHICH IS 2 AND A HALF HOURS FROM TORONTO. TGMAG: I THINK THAT THAT WOULD BE A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY IN THE FUTURE FOR OUR SCHOOL.WE WOULD HAVE TO ASK THE MUSKOKA BOARD OF EDUCATION
THOUGH. WE MIGHT GET CRAMPED WITH PEOPLE WANTING TO GO ON.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 3:00PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Bye, bye. We must be going here too. But again. Thanks. This was
wonderful... and you guys did a great job. Check out the website and send us
feedback. Find the RM:PE book when it comes to your school.

tgmag@tgmag.ca: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 3:02PM EST (-0500 GMT)
Spruce: make sure you follow up with CKVR. The contact there is Tony Panacci
at 734-3300. Let us know how it goes.

Spruce: . . . . Wed, Jun 5, 3:03PM EST (-0500 GMT)
