Spring has officially sprung, and in honour of mother nature's busiest (and friskiest) time of year, Tiny Giant has sex! (I mean, some interesting facts about sex.) The 1999 Durex Global Sex Survey has everything you could ever want to know about teens having sex (and those choosing not to). Durex, a condom maker, surveyed 4000 youth between the ages of 14 and 21 to discover their sexual attitudes, thoughts and practices.

- What's your life worth? 26% of Canadian youth who participated in the survey said they didn't use contraception their first time AT ALL! And only 21 % said they used a condom every time they have sex. WHAT IS GOING ON OUT THERE? You'd think with the rate of AIDS the highest among youth we'd be more careful, not to mention the very real possibility of getting pregnant. (see our story, I'm a teen mom, for some birth control inspiration and advice from a real teen.) 76% of Canadian youth surveyed said they know someone who had an unintended pregnancy and 62% know someone who had an abortion.

- When was your first time? Canadian youth are some of the youngest sexually active people. Canada and the US have the lowest average age of first sex at 15 years old. UK: 15.3 Germany: 15.6 Global: 15.9

- 37% of Canadians respondents said that their first time was more disappointing than expected, which is the second highest in the world

- It seems the younger we are, the earlier we're more likely to lost our virginity. 21 year old respondents' average age for their first time was 16.7. But for16 year old respondents the average age for their first time was 14.3. It's a difference of 2.4 years.

- How often are you getting it? Canadians average having sex 113 times a year. UK: 133 US: 128 Global: 98 France: 99

- Easy does it! Over half of the sexually active young adults surveyed (51%) would expect to sleep with their new partner within the first month of meeting, compared to 13% of virgins, who are more likely to wait for six months or until after marriage. 28 % of sexually active and non-sexually active Canadians expect sex in the first month of dating, 13% expect to wait until after six months and 9% expect to wait until marriage. UK and France expect sex the soonest, with over half in both countries expecting sex with a new partner before the end of their first month together.
