Ellen Foley
By: Anita Draycott

Best known for her vocals on Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell album, Ellen Foley has struck out on her own with a debut rock album entitled Nightout.

Teen Generation caught her act at Toronto's El Mocambo on a recent promotional tour. The power and passion of Foley's vocals mixed wfth various theatrics and stage antics create a tough yet vulnerable onstage presence. Like Meatloat, she creates a character for each of her songs and lets her emotions play through.

St. Louis born, Foley moved to New York at 19 to pursue a career in music and acting. Touring with the National Lampoon show she met Meatloaf and Jim Steinman who was the musical director. She says of her album producer, "I've been affected more musically by Jim Steinman than anyone in my life."

After a couple of T.V. series and some on and oft Broadway parts including the lead female in Hair she feels, "I've finally found my niche."

If you liked the relentless rock style of Meatloaf, give Ellen's new Nightout a try.
