Céline Dion

by Jeff Bateman

The meteoric career of Céline Dion ended its orbit with the launch of her new CD Unison. Céline was discovered when she was only 12 years old. The 21 year old Quebec's darling is now ready to conquer the world with her first English album. It's not from yesterday that Céline is a superstar in Quebec. She has already received 15 Felix (the Quebec equivalent of a Grammy), a total that no one has ever been able to match. She also has 4 CD albums that went platinum. Céline started to conquer the world when she won the gold medal at the Yamaha World Song in Tokyo. In 1983, she was the first Canadian to receive a gold CD in France. In 1988, she was declared the winner of the prestigious Eurovision contest in Dublin, Ireland. Today, she put a focal point to all her achievements. Unison is a declaration of independence. The recording of this album brought Céline in studios from London, Los Angeles and New York. She chose material from famous writers such as Paul Bliss, Aldo Nova, Tom Keane and David Foster. The tracks found in this album now puts Céline almost at the top of female recording artists. Her first single, If There Was Any Other Way will be a huge radio hit.

For those who already knew the French recordings of Céline, they will be delighted to see the sensual presence found in her new songs such as The Last to Know, Where Does My Heart Beat Now and Have A Heart. We have to offer her what she deserves as an artist who gave a number of sold out shows. Today, with the launch of this album Céline now takes the title of international star, something that had been predicted by critics for a long time now. Our star that was once a child as grown and this album is a journal of her evolution.
