I've come to a conclusion as I've been working on the TG archives -- the concept of time confuses me. I find it to be paradoxical, filled with half-truths and contradictions.

In many cases, time becomes synonymous with change. After all, as time progresses, everything around us seems to progress along with it. From reading through the articles from past decades, I've become aware of how, as years go by, people grow, their interests shift and their lives are consequently modified. As days go by, technology becomes more advanced, the tools we use are replaced with ones more complex, and our environment is altered.

However, there are also many things that are able to withstand the test of time. Regardless of the date, people will always experience the emotions of pain, fear, and happiness etc . Even many of the social issues which are present in today's world, have been around since what seems like the beginning of time. Things like drug use, women's rights, and youth employment, come to mind. While these issues may have been improved over the years, their existence is still very prominent in today's society.

Even more confusing to me are emerging trends in fashion and music. While one might argue that these styles are always changing, I find that the term "everything old becomes new again" comes to mind. The swing craze of the 40s and 50s, for example, has recently become popular in the nineties music scene. Even fashions tend to be recycled over the years - think bell bottoms, capri pants etc. So do styles really change? Or is there a cycle to things?

What conclusions can I possibly make out of my confusion? None, presumably, except for what I've already stated. I suppose the concept of time and its relation to change is something that will always be beyond my comprehension. Perhaps it is something I'm not meant to understand. But I can't help but wonder if there is any truth to the expression "some things never change."
