Symbolic Yet Superficial
By Kristine Seelen
Unbroken is the heart I carry on the outside,
tarnished and full of memory.
The band twists around my finger like a serpent
suffocating its prey.
A symbol of love transfixed on its border
exposing the forgotten memories like a novel
filled with painful brooding secrets.
Once wrappped and concealed beneath two entwining hands,
now removed
it sits alone, as if in loneliness.
Forever resting its burden on my finger
it is a constant reminder
of what we once shared,
now gone,
but never to be forgotten.
