Do you have a story to tell about your cultural heritage in
Canada?
Well, here is your chance to tell it.
The Mathieu Da Costa Awards has been established in partnership with
Canadian Heritage to encourage elementary and secondary school
students to explore, highlight and celebrate the contributions made
by people from Black, Aboriginal and diverse cultural background to
Canadian society from very early history to the present.
This new Awards program came about to celebrate the historic decision
made by the Parliament of Canada in December 1995 to recognize the
important contributions made by Black Canadians to this country and
to observe February officially as Black History Month. A National
Advisory Committee was created to oversee the Mathieu Da Costa Award,
including a TG Magazine/Students Commission youth representative.
We're proud to help provide this opportunity for you to tell a
story from your cultural heritage, or the story of another culturally
diverse Canadian through a written essay or an artistic work.
