TIPS ON HOW TO HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

1. Be hospitable.

2. Be slow in speaking English and be sure that they understand the words you're using.

3. Respect their religion. For instance, Roman Catholics use sign of the cross before eating.

4. Try to avoid foul language, it might convey another meaning to them.

5. At first some feel shy to start a conversation so make the first move to ask questions.

6. If possible, try to show that you are interested in learning their language.

7. Bring them to historical places in your country and tell them stories about this place.

8. The student also wants to know more about the different traditions you have, so try to tell them something about them.

9. When preparing food for meals, try to consider people's different tastes.

10. Since the weather is different and because of the cold, some may experience dry lips, so try to suggest to buy chapstick and where to buy it.

11. Some may get homesick so when you find that they're not feeling well ask them why and find ways to help.

12. There are things which are foreign to them, like wearing seat belts, so teach them how to use them.

13. These people want to bring presents for their family, but want to buy them in the cheapest store in town so point out what stores have bargains.

14. Treat them just like a long time friend and do things naturally.

15. Finally, remember the golden rule " Do not do unto others, what you don't want others to do unto you."
