Conclusion

This year has given youth an opportunity to explore the possibilities of APEC and to be involved in a direct and meaningful way in the process. It is through education that we will all become better prepared to deal with the dilemmas that we presently face, as well as the challenges that lie ahead. Whether these situations be technical, social or political in nature, the year's youth events have enabled us to appreciate better our present situations and more accurately understand our future. As a first step in developing youth networks, delegates from several of the APEC '97 events have initiated systems of information exchange using the internet. Together, APEC '97 and Canada's Year of Asia Pacific have offered youth everywhere the opportunity to learn more about themselves, and more importantly, about others.
