What do you think?
By Jean Dumas, Youth Journalist Toronto June 10 1997 -- I had the opportunity to spend a few minutes with Jean-FranÁois ThÈroux from Varennes, QuÈbec. I asked him about his participation in the Youth Forum...
Jean : Jean-FranÁois, could you tell me how you feel about being a francophone in this forum in which English is the language of communication? How did you manage?
Jean-FranÁois : Most of the time I was observing because I couldn't participate as much as I wanted to. Sometimes I didn't understand what was said because it was all going so fast... I got used to it.
Jean: What did you think about the APEC Ministers during the presentation of the recommendations?
Jean-FranÁois : I think that the ones that came here with an open-mind responded well to the recommendations and we had some positive answers to our questions. Some of them commented and asked constructive questions. It proved that they were interested.
Jean: What are your thoughts on the protest against the APEC that took place yesterday?
Jean-FranÁois : I came here to talk about the environment in a youth forum and I knew that the APEC was financing what we were doing and that they didn't want to give us a train of thought to follow... I read the papers that the protestors were handing out and in most cases I agreed with what they were saying. As for APEC, the role that I saw them play, it was mainly financing.... We had our own line of thought. Maybe the protestors didn't know what our role was at this meeting...
