YOUTH CAUCUS PRESENTATION

Youth and Sustainability

Recommendations:

Create a scientific (natural and social) youth alliance within each economy to tackle with scientific rationale regional socio-economic and environmental problems.

Provide environmental education for youth to develop a holistic approach, incorporating concepts, ethics, experiential learning, and tools for action.

Encourage youth participation through environmental awareness campaigns such as formal and non-formal education.

Provide youth with opportunities to take action by linking them to existing programs and by supporting new programs.

Action Plan:

Engaging Individual Action from Primary Stakeholders

Put a predetermined proportion of ecological or economic taxes towards projects which conserve, protect, and enhance the environment with an emphasis on education and youth to encourage sustainable practices.

Facilitate partnerships and linkages between individuals and community-based groups by exchanging ideas, working on projects together, and sharing resources.

Create and raise individual awareness of environmental issues by sharing experiences and knowledge through media, Internet, brochures, and workshops.

Integrate environmental activities in our daily lives and create community programs about environmental issues. Vehicle emission clinics and environmental awareness concerts are examples.
