Activity: Plan a travel adventure to AsiaSuggested materials:
-Map of Asia
-Atlas
-World Almanac
-Maybe some travel guides - Lonely Planet, Fodors, etc. - these can be borrowed from most libraries
-Your imagination
Travelling is a wonderful way to see the world, experience other cultures, learn more about yourself while growing personally, professionally and spiritually.
Organizing a trip can be fun, challenging and educational.
Part 1: In groups of two to three, plan YOUR OWN travel adventure to Asia. Imagine that for your graduation present, you were each given an return airline ticket to your Asian country of choice with up to three stopovers. Use the map and travel resources to help develop your travel itinerary.
The following questions may be helpful to guide you in your planning:
1) When do you plan to travel?
2) How long do you plan to travel?
3) Which countries do you want to visit?
4) What do you want to see in these countries?
5) Do you need visas?
6) How much money will you need? Where will you get the money from?
7) What will the weather/season be where you are going?
8) What will you need to pack? What should you not pack?
9) How are you going to travel from place to place (planes, trains, automobiles, mountain bike, etc.)
10) What is your contingency plan in case of emergencies?
11) Will you need shots, malaria pills, etc.
Part 2: Share your itinerary with the rest of the class. What have you learned about the selected countries and planning a trip?
Variation: Pretend that you have already gone on your trip and have returned to Canada. What did you do? Where did you go? What problems, if any, did you encounter? What did you learn on your trip? Present your travel adventure to your class. You can draw pictures of the places you visited, make up post-cards of your trip, write a fictional journal - anything you want to describe the journey.
