APEC Transportation Youth Forum
June 20-24, 1997, Victoria, British Columbia (Canada)

What the Youth Delegates Had to Say

"I feel that my opinions on transportation issues in the Asia Pacific region were heeded by both the other youth delegates and the industry/government representatives. However, perhaps what was more important was the opportunity to form friendships and business contacts with representatives of other economies. As many of the youths that were present will be the future leaders in the transportation industry, such friendships will greatly facilitate the continued breaking down of cultural and trade barriers."

"It was very gratifying to realize that we, the youth and future, had in one weekend addressed what it most likely took the ministers and industry leaders years to conclude."

"I believe that a lot of the youth returned home with new ideas and new visions for the futures of their homelands."

"It was an experience of a lifetime. I take away from the conference not only a great understanding of the APEC region, its people, the problems and issues which are being faced, and that will be faced in the future, but also a strong understanding of the whole symposium/conference process."

"We challenge APEC member economies to act on these recommendations in policy development and implementation and to develop mechanisms to authentically integrate the voice of youth in the APEC process."

"I sincerely believe that my attendance at the Youth Forum and the Ministerial contributed to helping me grow and learn more about myself and my goals for the future."

"I hope that the success of this Youth conference will encourage the industry leaders and the political players to continue Youth involvement in these types of forums."
