The North American Indian,
once a strong nation...
now a faltering breed.
The elders think we are dying
because of the white man's influences
but I say we are dying
because of our
weaknesses.
The elders disagree.
It is the fire inside
which makes you shine brightly.
If you feel the fire
with knowledge
you will always burn.
The elders disagree.
They do not listen
to children and woman.
They say a segregated school
will save our young.
I say, having a separate school
is taking a step backwards.
Segregation
is not the answer.
Intergration is.
We need to experience
our ups and downs
as others do.
The elders disagree.
Now it is my turn.
How are we to listen
to leaders proven corrupt?
Our leaders started out with a bright fire,
but along the way it went out.
We, the young
have a strong fire
I feel its warmth.
We can make our nations
strong again...
not stronger
or weaker
but equal.
Be proud of what you are.
Be proud of your eternal soul fire.
