The Oak Tree

I was always here,

I watched your forefathers

Fish, hunt, farm.

I never bothered them.

They never caused me harm.

But now streets must be paved.

Buildings made.

My life's juices no longer flow.

For they have cut me down.

Why?

I'll never know.
