Volunteer Experiences
My volunteer experiences have been in various areas of my community. I have spent endless hours volunteering at the The Good Sheppard Centres, Mission Services, Red Cross, Knights of Columbus, Mundialization Committee, Vision 2020 and as a member of the board of directors for the Volunteer Centre. I gave much time and prayer to each organization and I became a good liaison between the school and myself. I am grateful to these organizations that did invite me to be part of their team. I have learned so much from them and have benefitted from the good feelings of having volunteered with them. These experiences over the past five years have opened many doors for me and have left my career options open.
Benefits of Volunteering
Through working in organizations like Mission Services, the Volunteer Centre and The Good Shepherd Centre I was able to take initiative and work closely with needy people in our community. These organizations brought great comfort to people by providing them with food, assistance, money and care. They play a major role in making the lives of people more manageable and more comfortable. More importantly I learned the importance of bringing dignity to the lives of others. After many years of service towards others, I have learned the real meaning of love. Love has to be shared and put into action. This is how I have benefitted from my experiences.
Why I continue to volunteer?
I continue to volunteer because my work in the community has taught me that it is critical to have people working together as a team to be effective in accomplishing the tasks at hand. If you have a strong team with a shared vision and a single goal, combined with dedication and perseverance, anything can be accomplished. The important thing is, my volunteer service to people is what will allow me to accomplish my goals and it is highly inspirational. It is for this reason I continue to volunteer.
The Volunteer Centre of Hamilton
In my capacity as a member of the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Centre, I am responsible for participating in the governance function of the organization. I also provide the Board with information about youth and appropriate outreach measures to encourage and support youth volunteerism. It is a great organization and highly commendable for the work it does in the community.
