MODULE 5 - Post-Workshop Training:
Research and Statistics (Flash Cards)

Objective:
  • To highlight individual perspectives to the research
  • To highlight ways we gain information: through others' experiences, as well as research

Materials:

  • Flash cards (15 minutes)

Activity: Discussion and Action

  1. Hand out flash cards
  2. Have each person read to the group what his/her flash card says
  3. Explain that these flash cards were developed and researched by young people at our weekly youth group meetings
  4. Ask the group the following discussion questions
    • How do you think gender expectations influence some of these facts and statements?
    • Have you experienced this in your life or witnessed it in someone else's? How have you worked through it?
  5. Have the large group break off into small groups of 3-4 to share some of their ideas and strategies on how to deal with the issues that have come up in our discussions. Participants can be as creative as they want in reporting back some of their solutions. Facilitators should circulate and check in to ensure youth feel well-supported. Participants can draw something, compose music, poetry or report-back.
  6. Small groups report back to the larger group.
  7. Facilitators de-brief each presentation and share resources to support youth and young adults.
