• I am Amelyn. I'm 18 yrs. old. I come from the Davo, Philippines. I was chosen as a delegate for the Asia Connects, Saskatchewan conference by the Council for the Welfare of Children, Philippine government, one of the prime agencies working for the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and UNICEF MANILA shouldered all my travel expenses.
• I am one of the active child labour advocates in my country and also a volunteer at a drop in center for street children. Child Labour is one of the serious issues that my country is facing today and there are still a lot of people who are not aware of this problem. As an advocate it is a challenge on my part to make people know that this problem needs the concern of everyone, not only of the government but the entire society. I also believe that young people like myself have a vital role in stirring awareness regarding this issues.

  This conference that I attended helped me meet a lot of different young people and discuss issues which affect us. It was also the first time that I was able to express my ideas and opinions about child labour. I'm so happy to know that there are so many young people who did their best to contribute something to their country. I was so impressed by the presentation of the delegate from Thailand and I was so touched by the different stories they told. I started to realize how difficult it is to fight for something you believe is right but which some people just take for granted.

• ASIA CONNECTS is a one-of-a-kind experience for youth like me and I will always cherish the memories that I have shared with the people I worked with and met on this conference. There are so many things that I have learned here which I am going to share with the my community and friends in school. Furthermore, this conference made me realize how important it is to study anything about your culture, different cultures in Asia and even the cultures around the world. It is one way of making a good relationship among nations around the world.
