Evaluation

We will be using a variety of evaluation tools. These will help us make sure we are reaching our goals and track what we are doing – so we can keep learning what works – and what doesn’t. There will be three components of the evaluation for Blueprint:

The Snapshot Survey

A tool of the Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement this online survey helps us gauge the long term impact of a young persons engagement in an activity – in this case, the Blueprint meetings. Youth need to fill out the online survey either before the meetings begin or shortly after the beginning of the project. They will be asked again later in the project to be fill out the survey a second time.

The Snapshot of Youth Engagement survey includes two tools. The first is the Engagement Portrait survey, which measures an individual’s engagement in an activity. It includes questions about what youth do in the activity and what we call the Head, Heart, Feet and Spirit aspects of young person’s activity involvement. The second tool is the Engagement Landscape survey. It includes questions about the qualities of the activity setting, or the ‘landscape’ where youth are participating.

You can access the snapshot survey online at: www.engagementsurvey.ca/snapshot

Or you can download the Snapshot of Youth Engagement survey in two parts: the Engagement Portrait survey and the Engagement Landscape survey. Have youth fill them out as described above and mail them to the SC office in Toronto (23 Isabella St. Toronto ON M4Y 1M7), Attention Judit Alcalde (our researcher for the project).

Weekly Head, Heart, Feet, Spirit (HHFS) Sheets

  • Head: What Did I Learn Today?
  • Heart: How Do I Feel About Today?
  • Feet: What Will I Do With What I Learned Today?
  • Spirit: How Did I Connect Today (to other youth, the issue, something greater than myself)?

These one page handouts are very helpful in determining week to week where participants are at – both that day and in general. They evaluate each specific meeting. You will need to have youth fill out a HHFS Sheet every week. Youth do not need to write their name on them (though they can if they choose) – and this is important to remind youth – that these can be anonymous. When you collect the HHFS sheets each week you will need to type up the comments in an Excel File provided to you by the SC.
