YouthScape Conference
January 15-17, 2009
Banff, Alberta
This year YouthScape hosted a small conference in Banff, Alberta, for community groups and organizations working with various youth across the country. The Students Commission was lucky to be there to learn about initiatives and strategies that are happening today not only to combat the many issues youth face but to promote their talents and skill sets. Having such a wide range of projects to showcase at the conference, The Students Commission involved different youth and adult allies from Toronto, Mississauga and Kainai to represent the Focus 3 project, Mississauga Action Plan, and Project P.E.A.C.E. The group facilitated an activity filled workshop on Youth-Adult Partnerships, using their own projects as examples. They spoke to the importance of building open and honest relationships by breaking down communication barriers and finding a common ground to connect from. This was an inspiring event that we were very lucky to be a part of and hope to attend again.
“Look around this circle, there are 130 people here and if we went around and you were only able to speak once you would still get to listen 129 times”
