On January 2, 2009, Youth Vybes and residents of O’Connor Drive/Parma Court gathered to celebrate the holiday season. By kicking off the New Year with music, dinner and Raffles they were able to continue part of a long-standing tradition. Every year Youth Vybes supports the O’Connor Community Centre’s Christmas Dinner, a free family focused event that brought residents together to celebrate. With the community centre under construction this year would have been the first cancellation. Faced with this dilemma Youth Vybes rose to the occasion and organized their own holiday event. The dinner was also an opportunity for the group to recognize the hard work of its members with an awards ceremony. Each member was presented with a certificate of appreciation for the hard work, dedication and commitment that they showed over the year. Youth Vybes also recognized groups and people that have supported them including Betty Kerr, Debbie Parks, Youth In Power, Action For Neighborhood Change, The Students Commission as well as individual awards to Shawn Harding and Mary Hailu. The night was filled with music, good food and positive Vybes.
